Central Chapter Board Report (April 30, 2007 to September 14, 2007)
July 23, 2007 – Meeting hosted by Sparrow Hospital with an educational presentation by Sharon Smith, Changesmith, LLC entitled “Joint Commission Readiness – It’s a journey…not a destination”. Installation of officers was finalized. Updates on The Joint Commissions revision to MS1.20, upcoming educational opportunities and interesting items were reviewed.
Sparrow provided many nice gift and a drawing was held. Paula Vandorpe (Hayes Green Beach Hospita, Charlotte) won the MAMSS April 2007 carry-all (donated by the Chapter), Sandy Sinclair (Lansing Surgery Center, Lansing) won an umbrella provided by Sparrow Hospital, and Darlene Graham won a First Aid Kit provided by Sparrow Hospital.
September 11, 2007 – Meeting hosted by Terri Rhoads at Eaton Rapids Medical Center with an audio conference educational program presented by HCPro, Inc entitled “The Joint Commission’s Focused Professional Practice Evaluation: Competency, proctoring and peer review”. The meeting was opened up to all MAMSS members. Angie Brigham, Vice-President, presided.
The MAMSS and NAMMS mentoring programs were presented, the NAMSS position paper to The Joint Commission regarding the changes to MS1.20 were presented for discussion. Many interesting articles were presented for information.
December 2007 Meeting - Christmas “Ornament/Item” exchange will be held at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with fun for all. Date to be announced.

Northern Chapter – Michigan Association Medical Staff Services
MAMSS Annual Conference – Chapter Update Report
September 2007
The Chapter:
The Northern Chapter of the Michigan Association Medical Staff Services covers the largest geographic area in the State, north from about the level of Cadillac, including the entire Upper Peninsula. Total membership is about 32, and all of the active members are doing what they can to encourage new membership in the Chapter as well as in MAMSS and NAMSS; however, it is very difficult to offer programs to potential members who are at such great distances from each other. We continue to experiment with opportunities for remote participation by means of video teleconferencing, which is available at many facilities.
The Chapter meets on a quarterly basis for the purpose of networking and to update each other on new medical staff activities and programs taking place at each of our facilities. Current officers of the Chapter are:

Recent and Upcoming Chapter Activities The June 8th meeting was rescheduled to Friday, June 22nd to accommodate the Chapter’s participation with an Edge-U-Cate Webinar featuring Christine Mobley, CPMSM, CPCS, on Joint Commission’s Focused Professional Practice Standards for Newly Privileged Practitioners. The webcast reviewed and gave some insight on how to prepare for the new January 2008 standard. The meeting was hosted by Patty Drenth, President-Elect at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
The next Chapter meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 21st and will be hosted by Vicki Christian at Mercy Hospital Grayling. The final meeting for 2007 is scheduled to be held on December 14th in Traverse City and will be mostly social in nature (holiday celebration), although any urgent business will be addressed as needed.
Upcoming meetings for 2008 are tentatively scheduled for the second Friday of the month on a quarterly basis. Dates are March 14th, June 13th, September 12th and December 12th.
The latest financial report of the Chapter has been submitted to the MAMSS Board for their review and information. Respectfully submitted,

WMAMSS meeting schedule for 2008
The next WMAMSS meeting is scheduled for February 13, 2008 at the Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. This is a brand new hospital that just opened September, 2007. We’re anxious to tour this new facility.

The West Michigan chapter covers the area including north from Ludington , south to Benton Harbor and east to Battle Creek.
Membership
The total membership is 51 members. The membership has increased dramatically over the past two years. Chapter meetings average 17-20 members attending the chapter meetings.
Meetings
The chapter meetings are rotated around the region that all members will have the opportunity to attend. Meetings are usually held at a member’s hospital with lunch provided.

Topics are chosen to accommodate the members’ needs: including both hospital and managed care. Audio conferences have proven to be very effective.
